The net will only teach you to mimic moves. I suggest that you wait and when you can earn your own money start at a good school. Peerhaps when you show your parents that you are committed they will help with the cost of training. I understand your situation. I wanted to start when i was around 5 or 6 years old. My parents thought it was silly. When I turned 13 I began to mow lawns for money. I began my training then (1967), and never stopped. I still train and teach.

    Best of Luck!

You could definitely learn any form of martials by merely watching and practicing them on your own. There are professional fighters who do the same. One of the most famous one is the former UFC champ, late Evan Tanner.

Yes…but badly. If you chose this path take the advice of the ones who really have trained and don’t be stupid enough to tell people you are such and such a rank in such and such an art because there are enough morons out there who claim they know what is what when in reality they are nothing.

What the world needs is people who are truly educated in what a real martial art is, have perfected it to mastery and didn’t sit around reading books, watching tv or learning on the internet.

Now that being said most good Sensei at good dojo will allow students to train in exchange for working, cleaning or errands…we do at our dojo but you have to prove you are going to be a good, moral and dedicated student in order to keep this privledge.

Nothing beats a face to face instructor

Get a job or work out a deal with the instructor work for lessons. I agree with your mom. If you earn your lessons you’ll appreciate them and learn from them much better.
